Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs
Heather A. Conley, a member of the Senior Executive Service, assumed her responsibilities as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs in September 2001.
Prior to her appointment at the State Department, Ms. Conley had served as a Senior Associate with the international consulting firm Armitage Associates, L.C. since 1997. She had served as an Associate with the firm since 1994.
Prior to joining Armitage Associates, Ms. Conley served for over three years in several capacities as a foreign affairs officer in the Department of State. From February 1992 to June 1994, Ms. Conley served as a Special Assistant to the Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to the New Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union. Prior to this assignment, Ms. Conley served as a program officer in the Office of International Security Operations, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.
Ms. Conley received her Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College. She received her Master of Arts in International Relations from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, The Johns Hopkins University. She has received two State Department Meritorious Honor Awards.
Ms. Conley, her husband, and daughter reside in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
