Belarus: OSCE Office in Minsk

Douglas Davidson, Charge d'Affaires of U.S. Mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
Statement to the OSCE Permanent Council
Vienna, Austria
January 30, 2003

Released by the U.S. Mission to the OSCE

(As prepared for delivery)

Thank you Mr. Chairman. We would like to join the chair in congratulating Ambassador Dr. Heyken on his appointment [as Head of the OSCE Office in Minsk]. And we would also like to commend the Chair itself for its dedication and commitment to producing this appointment. While we would recall that such appointments are the prerogative of the Chair, we would also express our appreciation for Belarusian cooperation in this matter. We hope that such cooperation bodes well for the future of the OSCE Office in Minsk, particularly with regard to the timely deployment of the remaining mission members and the implementation of the mission’s programs. Thank you.
