Reuters Soundbite:

Ambassador Murphy (Mar. 3): "It was a shock, an absolute and unspeakable tragedy. Innocent men and women who were serving their country being attacked senselessly, two deaths, two serious injuries, horrible shock, a horrible tragedy.

"Our hearts go out obviously to the families of those who lost their lives. Our prayers are with those who are still struggling with their wounds, we can't say enough good things about the cooperation and the support that we have had in Germany, from the highest levels, the Chancellor and her very meaningful words right down to the cooperation with the police and law enforcement.

"We are rooting for them, millions and millions of people are rooting for them. Obviously, millions of Americans but also, I am happy to say, the support that has come out of Germany for those guys has been truly, truly heart-warming.

"I think we make a mistake right now if we draw too many conclusions about why this happened, what the implications are. I think we are in the phase, this only happened about 27 hours ago, I think we are still very much in the phase first and foremost mourning the losses of the two gentlemen, the two brave guys, trying to get the other two guys back and stable and on their feet. And also clearly, the investigation is going on at a very high level of intensity. I think we should wait and see, get through this period, learn more about what happened, why it happened and then we can figure out what implications will come from that."
