Goal
To reduce barriers to transatlantic investment and encourage open investment regimes in third countries.
Specific Objectives
Progress
The April 2007 Transatlantic Economic Framework established a U.S.-EU Investment Dialogue affirming our commitment to open investment policies at home and opposing protectionism abroad. Dialogue members have held three face-to-face meetings (November 2007, April 2008, and October 2008) and numerous videoconferences to exchange views on bilateral investment policies, investment barriers in key third countries, and foreign government-controlled investment. The Investment Dialogue also drafted a U.S.-EU Open Investment Statement, which was adopted by the TEC in May 2008 and serves as a touchstone for future efforts.
Next Steps
Pursue further implementation of the work program, including exchanging views regarding post-financial crisis investment climates and investment relationships with important emerging economies, as well as discussing developments in the U.S.-EU bilateral investment relationship and foreign government-controlled investment.
