Country Program: Iraq

Since 2003, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) has been an integral player in the U.S. Government’s efforts to help the Government of Iraq and the Iraqi people to promote security, stability, and respect for the rule of law in Iraq. While unprecedented in its size and scope, INL’s Iraq program draws on experience and expertise the Bureau has developed in complex contingency operations over the last two decades. Among its Iraq efforts, INL partners with other United States Government agencies and private and public sector entities to supply expertise (currently well over 800 advisors) to expand the capacities of Iraq’s police, courts, judiciary, and corrections institutions. It administers these programs and develops related policy through dedicated INL offices in Washington and at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
