Overview:
The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Organization Affairs sponsors qualified U.S. citizens for participation in the United Nations Associate Expert (AE) program. This program recruits American citizens under a bilateral agreement between the United Nations (UN) and United States government to work for the Secretariat on projects that promote international peace and security and economic and social development. AEs are appointed to the UN for a period of one year, with a possibility of an extension; depending on the AE’s performance and available funding. After completing their AE assignment, many AEs successfully compete for positions in the UN.
