The Association of Community College Trustees represents the 6,500 publicly elected and appointed governing officials of the nation?s 1,100 community colleges. These colleges have a collective operating budget of $29 billion, serve over 11 million students annually, and employ close to 600,000 individuals in communities spread throughout the United States. The typical college returns $3 for every $1 in direct taxpayer support to its community, making community colleges among the most important economic development and entrepreneurial institutions in the nation. The Association was founded in 1972 as a nonprofit higher education association and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
