Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR)

Created in 1997 by the merger of two research organizations, the Council on Library and Information Resources is an independent, nonprofit organization working at the intersection of libraries and scholarly communications to expand access to information as a public good. CLIR’s research agenda is enhanced by the work of the Digital Library Federation which operates out of CLIR. It is a consortium of the largest US research libraries pioneering jointly created and shared electronic information technologies to extend their collections and services. CLIR’s Board has identified the following areas for focus: preservation awareness, resources for scholarship, digital libraries, leadership, economics of information, and international developments.
