The American Council on Education is a membership association of 1600 U.S. colleges and universities and 250 higher education associations. Green's responsibilities at ACE include developing the international agenda and establishing programs on leadership and change management. Her work in the international arena includes programs and policy studies concerning the internationalization of U.S. higher education, higher education issues abroad, and public policy issues related to international education. She directs a series of projects focused on the change process at higher education institutions and is an experienced facilitator for campus groups and trustees. Widely published on higher education issues, Green is coauthor of Higher Education in a Pluralist World: A Transatlantic View (2004), Internationalizing the Campus: A User's Guide (2003), and the On Change series of five monographs. She is editor of Transforming Higher Education: Views from Leaders Around the World (1997), Investing in higher Education: A Handbook of Leadership Development (1991) and, Minorities on Campus: A Handbook for Enhancing Diversity (1989), and Leaders for a New Era: Strategies for Higher Education (1988). Green served as interim president of Mount Vernon College (DC) from 1990-91. She also served as member of the board of trustees of Wilson College (PA) from 1988 to 1993 and at Sweet Briar College (VA) from 1994 to 2002, and is currently a board member at Juniata College (PA) and of the International Association of Universities. She holds a B.A. from Radcliffe College/Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Columbia University, both in French Literature.
