Since January 2001, Robert LaGamma has been Executive Director of the non-profit Council for a Community of Democracies. Prior to joining CCD Mr. LaGamma had a thirty-six year career as a Foreign Service Officer with the United States Information Agency serving in nine countries in Africa and Europe including Italy, South Africa, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Cote d?Ivoire. He has served as Visiting Fellow at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and as an Inspector with the Department of State's Office of the Inspector General and Examiner for its Board of Examiners. He directed the Carter Center's Field Office in Nigeria during the 1999-2000 election cycle and assessed the potential for fostering democracy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for the National Democratic Institute (NDI) during the summer of 2000. He earned his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College and his MA in International Relations from Boston University. He is the recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Public Diplomacy. He and his wife live in Reston, Virginia.
