This biennial UNESCO fellowship provides opportunities for Graduate and Postgraduate students to go abroad and pursue innovative training and advanced research in one or more of UNESCO’s five major program areas: education, natural sciences, culture, social and human sciences, and/or communication and information. These fellowships are worth up to $15,000 for a period of 1 to 6 months.
Interested candidates should have a University degree, be 45 years of age or younger and possess exceptional merit and potential. They must also demonstrate language proficiency in their proposed country of study. Candidates should specify the type of study/research program(s) they wish to undertake and draw up a precise and comprehensive detailed proposal.

To be considered, applications must be sent to the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, which will conduct a review and make recommendations to the U.S. Department of State as to which 2 applications should be forwarded to UNESCO for final considerations. UNESCO’s relevant Program Sector will evaluate the technical and substantive suitability of the application and a UNESCO Intersectoral Screening Committee will examine each application with a view to ensuring equitable geographical distribution, and conformity with strategic objectives and program priorities. Of the finalists, one candidate from each member state will be selected to receive the fellowship.
