The U.S. National Commission for UNESCO is pleased to announce the call for applications for the UNESCO-L'OREAL Co-Sponsored Fellowships for Young Women in Life Sciences international fellowship program. L'OREAL offers both an international and an American fellowship program.

International Fellowship Program
The UNESCO-L'OREAL Co-Sponsored Fellowships for Young Women in Life Sciences honor 15 young women researchers at the doctoral or postdoctoral level, whose promising projects have been accepted by a reputable institution outside their country of origin. These fellowships, worth up to $40,000 for a period of up to two-years, are awarded to three Fellows from each of the following five regions: Africa, Arab States, Asia & the Pacific, Europe & North America, and Latin America & the Caribbean.

American citizens who wish to apply for the 2009 UNESCO-L'OREAL Co-Sponsored Fellowships for Young Women in Life Sciences program must have their applications received by the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO by May 9, 2008. Please send your application by courier (for example, Federal Express, UPS, or DHL) to U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, 2121 Virginia Ave, Suite 6200, Washington, DC 20037.

In accordance with the requirements of the UNESCO-L'OREAL fellowship program, all applications must be submitted with the required documentation on the prescribed application forms. Applicants born before 1 January 1974 will not be eligible for this program.

The U.S. National Commission for UNESCO will conduct an initial review of U.S. citizens' applications and make recommendations to the U.S. Department of State as to which applications (up to 4 in total) should be forwarded onto UNESCO for final consideration. Final selections are made by a special Selection Committee made up of representatives of UNESCO, L'ORÉAL and Life Sciences research community or institutions. More information on this program can be found at L'Oreal and UNESCO.
