In partnership with the Government of Iraq, the U.S. Department of State announces that the fourth meeting of the U.S.-Iraq Joint Coordination Committee on Educational and Cultural Cooperation (JCC) was held in Baghdad, Iraq, at the Council of Ministers on Thursday, March 6, 2014.
This meeting, hosted by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, was co-chaired by Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ali Al-Adeeb and Principal Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Kelly Keiderling. The meeting of the JCC was an opportunity for the United States and Iraq to outline key areas for collaboration in education, cultural heritage, and exchange programs. This cooperation and coordination strengthens the bond between our two nations and the Iraqi and American people.
The Joint Coordination Committee on Educational and Cultural Cooperation is one of the seven areas of cooperation outlined in the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement, signed in 2008. The delegations noted the importance of enhancing people-to-people ties between the United States and Iraq. A joint statement highlighting the success of educational exchange programs and collaboration on cultural preservation efforts was released to the media at the conclusion of the meeting.
