Regional Reconstruction Team Holds Inauguration Ceremony

Regional Reconstruction Team in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region

February 1, 2007

Camp Zaytun, February 1, 2007 -- An inauguration ceremony was held today at Camp Zaytun to mark the opening of the Regional Reconstruction Team (RRT) for the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani delivered remarks along with Ambassador Chang Ki-Ho from the Republic of Korea and Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad from the United States. The team leader is Ambassador Park Kyu-Ock of the Republic of Korea and his deputy is James Yellin of the United States.

The Regional Reconstruction Team in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region is the tenth team to have come on-line since the start of the provincial reconstruction team program in November 2005. Unlike other teams which cover only one province, the RRT serves the three provinces of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region-Dohuk, Erbil, and Sulaimaniyah. This RRT is one of three teams that is led by Coalition Partners, including the Basrah PRT, led by the United Kingdom, and the Dhi Qar PRT, led by Italy.
