U.S.-Sri Lanka Relations

U.S.-Sri Lanka relations are based on shared democratic values and a rules-based regional and international order. U.S. Assistance to Sri Lanka

U.S. assistance to Sri Lanka has totaled more than $2 billion since Sri Lanka’s independence in 1948. The United States has made substantial investments in agriculture, enterprise development, education, healthcare, energy and natural resources, and humanitarian activities. Bilateral Economic Relations

The United States is Sri Lanka’s largest export market and accounts for nearly $3 billion of the $11.7 billion of goods Sri Lanka exports annually. U.S. goods imports from Sri Lanka totaled $2.7 billion in 2018, down 6.4 percent from 2017.  U.S. exports to Sri Lanka in 2018 were valued at $372 million, up 10.7 percent from the previous year.

The U.S. delivers COVID vaccines to Sri Lanka.

COVID-19 Vaccine Deliveries

Since July, 2021 the United States has donated 3,408,370 safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine doses with the people of Sri Lanka. This includes 1,908,270 Pfizer and 1,500,100 Moderna doses. Of the 3,408,370 vaccine doses, 100% were donated in partnership with COVAX.

The United States is committed to leading an international and coordinated effort to accelerate access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines to meet global needs. The United States is working with other governments and partners including COVAX, Caricom, and the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) to protect communities from COVID-19 and apply lessons from this pandemic to enhance health security now and in the future.
