Under Secretary Burns: Travel to Europe

Under Secretary Burns visited Brussels, Belgium March 26-28 for discussions at NATO and the European Union on Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iran, and other priority issues. Under Secretary Burns held a series of meetings on Kosovo with European leaders in which he communicated strong U.S. support for UN Special Envoy Ahtisaari's plan for the future of Kosovo. He gave a speech to the Center for European Policy Studies on March 26 entitled "Challenges and Opportunities Facing the Transatlantic Community."

On March 27, Under Secretary Burns met with his fellow NATO Political Directors in a meeting of the North Atlantic Council to discuss our military operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan. He met separately with NATO Secretary General De Hoop Scheffer, High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary General of the European Union Javier Solana, and Belgian Foreign Minister Karel de Gucht.
