U.S.-Saint Kitts and Nevis Relations

The United States established diplomatic relations with Saint Kitts and Nevis in 1983 following its independence from the United Kingdom. Relations between the United States and Saint Kitts and Nevis have historically been friendly. The United States seeks to assist Saint Kitts and Nevis both to develop economically and to strengthen democracy in its parliamentary form of government.

U.S. Assistance to Saint Kitts and Nevis

U.S. assistance to Saint Kitts and Nevis is primarily channeled through multilateral agencies such as the World Bank and the Caribbean Development Bank, and through the U.S. Agency for International Development office in Bridgetown, Barbados. Saint Kitts and Nevis also benefits from U.S. military exercises and civic action projects, including through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative.

Bilateral Economic Relations

Saint Kitts and Nevis is a beneficiary of the U.S. Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI), which grants duty-free entry into the United States for many goods. The CBI aims to facilitate the economic development and export diversification of the Caribbean Basin economies. Saint Kitts and Nevis is a member of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM).

The Integrated Country Strategy is the four-year strategy articulating U.S. priorities in a given country. The Chief of Mission leads the strategy.

Investment Climate Statements

The Investment Climate Statements analyze a variety of economies that are or could be markets for U.S. businesses and provide information on the business climates.

The U.S. delivers COVID vaccines to Saint Kitts and Nevis.

COVID-19 Vaccine Deliveries

Since August, 2021 the United States has donated 36,000 safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine doses with the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis. This includes 36,000 Pfizer doses. Of the 36,000 vaccine doses, 100% were donated through bilateral agreements.

The United States is committed to leading an international and coordinated effort to accelerate access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines to meet global needs. The United States is working with other governments and partners including COVAX, Caricom, and the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) to protect communities from COVID-19 and apply lessons from this pandemic to enhance health security now and in the future.
