Third United States-Central American Dialogue on Security


On May 26-27, 2010, the Third U.S.-SICA Dialogue was held in Panama City, Panama.  The Dialogue emphasized the need for increased coordination throughout the region and expanded partnerships with countries outside of Central America.  A final communiqué paved the way for concrete steps for the Central American states to build stronger and broader partnerships as well

The growing challenges to security as to overcome the growing challenges to security including illicit arms and drug trafficking, criminal gangs, and the associated crime and violence. 

1SICA is the Spanish acronym for the Central American Integration System. SICA member states include Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. The Dominican Republic is an associate member state and Mexico is an observer state to SICA.
