Craig A. KellyCraig Kelly is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service.  He has served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State since September 2007.  He was U.S. Ambassador to Chile from 2004 to 2007 and served as Executive Assistant to Secretary of State Colin Powell from March 2001 to June 2004.  Before that, he was Executive Assistant to Thomas Pickering, who was then the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.

Ambassador Kelly has served in a variety of overseas posts, including Bogotá, Rome and Paris. He was an election observer for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1997.  In Washington he has served in the Western Hemisphere and European Bureaus as well as at the National Security Council.

Ambassador Kelly holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has studied at Stanford University, the Ecole Nationale d'Administration in Paris and the National War College in Washington.  He was a Fulbright Scholar in Italy.  His languages are Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese.
