
Overview of Fifth Summit
The Fifth Summit of the Americas, held at Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, from April 17 to 19 2009, was very successful, and demonstrated the commitment of the Americas. At the Summit President Obama established the commitment of the United States to work cooperatively throughout the hemisphere to achieve hemispheric goals.
Summit Initiatives/Objectives
To address these hemispheric goals, this Summit generated a number of initiatives or programs that fall into five categories: Democracy/Human Rights, Economic Development, Energy and Climate Change, Citizen Security, and Human Development.
