The Race, Ethnicity, and Social Inclusion Unit of the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs led the U.S. State Department Delegation to participate and deliver Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's written statement in recognition of the first World Summit of African Descendants taking place in La Ceiba, Honduras, August 17-21, 2011. The delegation joined over 1000 participants from all over the world who convened in commemoration of the UN and OAS designation of 2011 as the International Year for People of African Descent.
