Members Named for the Advisory Group on Public Diplomacy for the Arab and Muslim WorldAdvisory Commission on Public DiplomacyPress Release Washington, DC July 16, 2003 July 16 – Today, the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy announced the membership of the Advisory Group on Public Diplomacy in the Arab and Muslim World, chaired by Ambassador Edward Djerejian. The advisory group was assembled at the request of Congress to study the efficacy of the Department of State’s public diplomacy efforts aimed in these regions and recommend policy initiatives. The advisory group, through the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy, will report its findings and recommendations to the President, the Congress, and the Secretary of State. Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and Patricia S. Harrison, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs and acting-Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, in consultation with the Advisory Commission, selected Djerejian for the post. Djerejian has invited 13 members to join this group, which held its first meetings in Washington on July 8 and 9.
