Daniel Rubinstein began his assignment as Consul General and Chief of Mission in Jerusalem on September 6, 2009. Previously, he served as Chief of the Civilian Observer Unit in the Multinational Force and Observers in Sinai, Egypt.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service at the rank of Minister-Counselor, Mr. Rubinstein also served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan from 2005 to 2008. Previously, he served as Director of the Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs in the Department of State from 2004 to 2005.

From 1989 to 2004, Mr. Rubinstein served in a number of other positions, including overseas tours of duty at Brasilia, Damascus, Tunis, Luanda, and Tel Aviv, as well as service with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad. In Washington, he has served in the Bureaus of Near Eastern Affa irs and Intelligence and Research.

Mr. Rubinstein is the recipient of the Herbert Salzman Award for Excellence in International Economic Performance, several Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards, and the Sinclair Language Award from the American Foreign Service Association. His foreign languages are Arabic, Hebrew, and Portuguese.

Mr. Rubinstein is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
