Carmen M. Martinez was sworn in as Ambassador to the Republic of Zambia on November 28, 2005 and presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Zambia, Levy Mwanawasa, on December 12, 2005. Selected for Senior Training at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. (1994-1995), Ambassador Martinez has also served in the State Department's Bureau of Human Resources (1995-1997). She received a Presidential Award for Meritorious Service in 2003 and was also the recipient of Senior Foreign Service Performance Awards in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003 and 2005. Ambassador Martinez holds an MA degree in Medieval History, an MS degree in National Security and Strategic Resources, and speaks Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai.
