Mr. Hudson is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Prior to becoming Ambassador, Mr. Hudson served as the Executive Director of the Bureaus of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA) and South Asian Affairs (SA) since August 2000. Among other responsibilities in this office, he oversaw the opening of the Embassy in Kabul and the evacuations of several NEA and SA posts, including Damascus, Jerusalem, and Sanaa in NEA and India and Pakistan in SA.
Prior to his most recent Executive Director assignment, Mr. Hudson served as Minister-Counselor for Administrative Affairs in Paris from 1996 to 2000, as Executive Director for the Bureau of African Affairs from 1993 to 1996, and as Director of the Office of Overseas Employment in the Bureau of Human Resources from 1989 to 1991. His previous assignments overseas include service as Administrative Officer in Belgrade, Deputy Chief of Mission in Lome, General Services Officer in Tehran, and Administrative Officer in Lubumbashi.
Mr. Hudson speaks French and Farsi. He received Senior Foreign Service Performance Pay in 2002, 2000, and 1992; individual Superior Honor awards in 2002 and 1991; and a Presidential Meritorious Service Award in 1993. He also received a Meritorious Honor Award in 1988 and shared Group Meritorious Honor awards in 1999 and 1975.
Before joining the Foreign Service in 1972, Mr. Hudson earned a B.A. in history and an M.A. in political science from the University of California at Los Angeles.
