Stephen D. Mull
Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs
Term of Appointment: 01/11/2007 to present

Ambassador Stephen Mull was appointed Acting Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs in January 2007 having previously served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of that bureau. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service in the class of Minister-Counselor, he had served as the U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania until June 2006.

Ambassador Mull joined the Foreign Service in March 1982. His assignments include two tours in Poland where, during the most recent of which, he served as the Counselor for Political and Political-Military Affairs; as well as tours in South Africa and Indonesia, where he served as Deputy Chief of Mission.

In Washington, Ambassador Mull has served as the Deputy Executive Secretary for the Department of State, the Director for Southern Europe, and as the Deputy Director of the State Department Operations Center.

Ambassador Mull is the recipient of the Baker-Wilkins Award as the Outstanding Deputy Chief of Mission, the Presidential Meritorious Service Award, Poland's Knight's Order of Merit, the Director General's Award for Reporting, and several Superior Honor Awards.
