Sumona Guha joined the Secretary’s Policy Planning Staff in August, 2012. Her portfolio includes Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Central Asia. Previously, she served as Deputy Director for Afghanistan Affairs in the Office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. She has also served as a Special Advisor in the Office of the Vice President, as a Pearson Fellow in the Senate, and as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. She previously served at Embassy Moscow, Embassy Paris, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, and the State Department Operations Center. Ms. Guha received her B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and an M.P.P. from Georgetown.
