Colonel Comeau is the acting Staff Director of the Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, Bureau of Arms Control and Verification and Compliance, Office of the Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security, Department of State. In this capacity, Colonel Comeau is responsible for United States compliance with the notification regimes associated with international conventional and nuclear arms control treaties and confidence-building agreements. Additionally he directs a 24-hour a day watch operation that maintains permanent, private, and reliable communications links with Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine in addition to links with the Office of Security Cooperation in Europe and Office for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Before assuming his current position, Colonel Comeau served as the Director of the Host Nation Coordination Cell at Al-Udeid Air Base, Doha, Qatar.

He was commissioned in 1988 as a distinguished graduate of the University of Florida’s ROTC program. A command pilot, he has logged more than 3,000 flying hours in T-37, T-38, C-5, and KC-135R/T aircraft. He has served operational and staff tours in Air Mobility Command, US Air Forces in Europe, Pacific Air Forces, US Air Forces Central, the Air Staff, and the Joint Staff. Colonel Comeau commanded an air refueling squadron and served as the Chief of International Negotiations Division, Deputy Directorate for Strategic Stability, the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It was at the Joint Staff that Colonel Comeau served as a member of the United States Delegation to the negotiations of the New START Treaty culminating in a new bilateral treaty further reducing and limiting nuclear armaments of both the United States and the Russian Federation. He was also a National Security Fellow in the Seminar XXI program conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Colonel Comeau graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Florida. He received a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Wilmington College in 1999, a Master in Science in Military Operational Art from the Air Command and Staff College in 2001, and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the Air War College in 2008, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Colonel Comeau’s major awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Kuwait Liberation Medal.
