Glen Johnson is a senior advisor to Secretary of State John Kerry, focused on strategic communications.
He came to the State Department after a 27-year career in daily journalism, during which he covered five presidential campaigns and eight political nominating conventions.
Johnson’s first full-time reporting job was at the City News Bureau of Chicago. He also worked at two local newspapers - The Sun of Lowell, Mass., and The Salem (Mass.) Evening News - and for both The Associated Press and The Boston Globe in Boston and Washington.
Among his assignments was covering the Massachusetts State House for nine years. He also served as the AP’s national transportation writer, with a particular focus on the aviation industry, and covered the Massachusetts congressional delegation for the Globe.
Most recently, Johnson was politics editor at Boston.com, where he was lead blogger for “Political Intelligence,” active in the website’s social and multimedia dimensions, and wrote a weekly column for The Boston Sunday Globe.
Johnson is a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis.
