Kurt Meppen joined the Policy Planning Staff following an assignment as U.S. Defense Attaché in Pakistan. His portfolios cover Regional Military Policy, Intelligence Policy, and Cyber issues.
Colonel Meppen previously served as Chief of Army International Affairs on the Army Staff, Director for Political-Military Affairs within the Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan, Central Asia Director for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and as Defense Attaché to Turkmenistan. He was Senior Army Fellow at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, and a Jennings Randolph Fellow at the United States Institute of Peace.
He received his B.A. from the University of Idaho and his M.S. from the National Intelligence University.
