Matthew Walsh is a Member of the Policy Planning Staff. His portfolio includes development policy, the foreign affairs budget, strategic planning, and Africa. Previously, Matt served as Special Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, in the Deputy Secretary of State’s Office, as a Country Desk Officer in the Africa and Europe bureaus, and at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. Prior to joining the State Department, he worked at USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance. Matt graduated from the University of Notre Dame and received his M.A. from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
