Helene Kessler covers Sub-Saharan Africa. She is a career Foreign Service Officer with over 25 years of experience in every functional area of the Foreign Service. She was most recently Director for Africa and the Middle East in the Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. Prior to that she served as Director of Political Training at the Foreign Service Institute. She has extensive experience working on Middle East security issues, Europe, and International Organization matters. Her overseas assignments include Helsinki, Tel Aviv, Brussels, and Bombay. She received her B.A. from Harvard University and her Master’s degree from the National Defense University.
