Alexander Bick covers political transitions in North Africa, Mali, and Syria.
Prior to joining the Policy Planning Staff, he worked in the Department's Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations and for the non-governmental Carter Center, where he served as Director for Election Observation Missions in Liberia and Libya. He also worked on democratization and conflict resolution programs in Sierra Leone, Sudan, and Venezuela. He holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Chicago, an M.A. in economic history from the London School of Economics, and was awarded a Ph.D. in history from Princeton University.
