Paul joined the U.S. Foreign Service in late 1988, and began his service as Director of the Office of Multilateral Trade Affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs in August 2013.
Paul has served in a variety of assignments in Washington covering such topics as trade, investment, anti-corruption, climate change, global health, and non-proliferation; and overseas, including in London, Sao Paulo, Manila, Singapore and, most recently, Kuala Lumpur. Paul worked G8 and G20 issues while detailed to the National Security Council staff in 2007-2008 and also served as an advisor to several senior State Department officials.
