Patrick Granfield joined the Policy Planning staff in August 2013 and serves as a speechwriter to the Secretary. Prior to his appointment, Patrick served as chief speechwriter to Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Before arriving in Chicago, Patrick helped to launch The National newspaper in the United Arab Emirates and served as the paper’s opinion editor. He has written op-eds under his own name or as a ghost writer for The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and The Baltimore Sun, among other publications. Patrick graduated from Dartmouth College with a B.A in history and taught history at St. Anselm’s Abbey School in Washington, DC.
