Aaron P. Forsberg began working as Executive Assistant for the Office of the Chief Economist in September 2013. A Foreign Service Officer since 2001, he served overseas in Iraq (2012-2013), Japan (2009-2012), Thailand (2004-2006), and Qatar (2001-2003), dealing principally with economic affairs. He also served in Washington, D.C. (2006-2008) as country desk officer for Indonesia and Timor-Leste. He speaks Japanese and French.
Prior to 2001, Aaron researched and wrote about U.S.-East Asia relations and worked at the Tokyo Office of the law firm White & Case LLP. Peer-reviewed publications include America and the Japanese Miracle (University of North Carolina Press, 2000) on Japan’s economic revival after 1945. He graduated with a B.A. in History from Whitman College and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
