Matthew Lussenhop arrived as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Rabat in July 2013.  He is a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service and previously served in Morocco from 1997-2000 as the Information Officer and Embassy Spokesman.

His most recent assignment was in Washington, D.C. as the Director of Policy and Evaluation for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in the Department of State.  Prior to that, he was Public Affairs Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan from 2010-11.  Previous diplomatic assignments overseas include service at U.S. Embassies in Manila, Philippines; Sofia, Bulgaria; Muscat, Oman; Kuwait; and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

At the State Department in Washington, D.C., he served as Director of Public Diplomacy Training at the Foreign Service Institute and as Arab Media Officer in the Bureau of Near Eastern and North African Affairs. 

DCM Lussenhop is the recipient of multiple Superior and Meritorious Honor awards.  He speaks Arabic and French.  He is originally from Minnesota and a graduate of the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.
