Dr. Stone joined the U.S. Department of State as Deputy Chief Economist in August 2012. He served as the Acting Chief Economist from August 2013 to July 2014. Prior to joining the Department, he worked at the International Monetary Fund in the Research, Western Hemisphere, European, Asia Pacific and Monetary and Capital Markets Departments. He has considerable applied policy experience with monetary and exchange rate policies, financial stability policies, economic crises and countries in transition. Prior to assuming his current position he served as the Deputy Division Chief of the Monetary and Macroprudential Policy Division at the IMF. Prior to joining the IMF staff he held positions at Data Resources, Inc., and for Fleet National Bank.
Dr. Stone holds a Ph.D. and a B.Sc.(Honors) from the University of Wisconsin as well as an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics. He has published numerous working and journal papers primarily in the fields of monetary, international and financial economics.
