Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Hannah Rosenthal was in Hungary, July 19-22 and met with Hungarian Government officials, Parliamentarians and representatives from the Jewish and Roma communities. Topics of conversation included combating anti-Semitism, including publicly condemning hate speech, Holocaust education, promoting tolerance through the 2012 Hours Against Hate campaign. I also had the honor to speak at the US Embassy’s Active Citizen Award ceremony to recognize March of the Living, a non-governmental organization, which brings students from around the world to march from Auschwitz to Birkenau in memory of all Holocaust victims. I also visited historical sites, museums, and memorials in Budapest.
