Durban Youth Mayor Priyanka Calyn Pillay is on a mission to the United States
Through the Bold Leader Youth Leadership Program, youth and educators from Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa engaged in an intensive and adventurous learning experience in the urban areas of Denver and Washington, D.C., and the wilderness of Colorado. Participants attended workshops and discussions, lived with local host families, experienced life with U.S. teenagers, met grassroots activists and community organizers, and gave feedback during a debriefing at the Department. Priyanka noted that the Bold Leaders Youth Program will “give me the opportunity to broaden my horizons, learn and share experiences with youth from other countries, and to return in the new year to use my enhanced leadership skills in community and social upliftment work” in South Africa.
