Elizabeth is a public diplomacy-coned Foreign Service officer serving her first tour in Washington, D.C. as the assistant cultural coordinator in the Bureau of African Affairs’ Office of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs (AF/PDPA). Her next assignment will be a consular tour in Taipei, Taiwan.

Prior to joining the State Department, Elizabeth earned a master's in Pacific and international affairs at the University of California, San Diego where she specialized in public policy in China and Latin America, and interned at the U.S. Southern Command’s Office of Public-Private Cooperation. As an undergraduate at the University of Florida, Elizabeth studied abroad in Beijing and Kunming, China and Seoul, South Korea.

Her previous work experience includes service as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer in Washington, D.C. atDate: 05/01/2011 Description: Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2011: Elizabeth Chan - State Dept Image a nonprofit organization charged with a mission to engage the area’s low-income Asian-American youth. Additionally, she supported foreign military sales at Booz Allen Hamilton and interned as an intelligence analyst at Intellibridge Corporation (now Eurasia Group) through The Washington Center program. While at Intellibridge, Elizabeth had the opportunity to see diplomacy in action at Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s welcoming ceremony on the White House lawn, and she was inspired to one day join the Foreign Service. She is excited to be one of the newest members of the State Department family and looks forward to the adventures ahead.
