Krishna Das has been a Foreign Service specialist with the Department of State since 2007. He is originally from Mumbai, India.

He studied economics at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai University. He completed his MBA and, after working in corporate america, went on to receive an MA in Higher Education Administration and Human Resources from the University of Iowa. Mr. Das worked for the University of Iowa as an international liaison. He also worked as the Statewide Coordinator for the Iowa State University Nonprofit Management Academy. He had a short stint with the Department of Homeland Security prior to joining the State Department.

He can converse in Hindi and Malayalam and can also understand Tamil.

He is the co-founder of the University of Iowa’s ‘International Day’ human rights program that imparts human rights education to high school students across Iowa and Western Illinois. He has volunteered as a researcher with Amnesty International (India section) documenting problems faced by certain refugee groups based in the New Delhi area.

Of his job, he says: “I feel privileged that I am part of such a wonderful agency as the Department of State that has entrusted me and others like me, with the honored task of helping further the Department’s mission of global diplomacy. Serving our great nation through the auspices of the State Department is truly an honor.”

Mr. Das considers Iowa City home. His passions include a vigorous discussion on world politics along with a game of Scrabble and a strong cup of tea. He is a true Hawkeye at heart!
