Aryani's first post as a Foreign Service officer was as a consular officer in Mexico City. Before joining the Foreign Service in 2009 as a public diplomacy officer, she served as an eligible family member in the political section at Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia.

Aryani previously worked as an interpreter, communications consultant, and dancer-choreographer. She grew up in Indonesia and went to Swarthmore College in Philadelphia. She is from Washington State. From Mexico, Aryani and her tandem spouse are headed to Islamabad for her second tour.
