Date: 05/01/2013 Description: Celebrating Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2013: Tenzin Frisby - State Dept Image Tenzin Frisby's name was given to her by His Holiness the Dalai Lama when she was born. A native of New York City and raised outside of Philadelphia, Tenzin Frisby attended high school and college in North Carolina.

After obtaining an associate’s degree in business administration at Western Piedmont Community College, she transferred to Western Carolina University her junior year, studying international business with a minor in Spanish during the Fall of 2005. She was accepted into the Norm Mineta Internship Immersion Program in Washington, DC where she worked as a management analyst intern for the Department of Defense during the Summer of 2006. From August 2006 until July 2007, she participated in WCU’s student exchange program to attend Avans University in the Netherlands. She earned a dual bachelor’s degree from Avans in July 2007 and graduated summa cum laude from WCU in August 2007.

After graduating, she was offered a position at DoD’s Washington Headquarters Services, where she worked for two years to become a senior program analyst. In 2009, she obtained a statistician position for the Department of Commerce at the U.S. Census Bureau, working on the 2007 Economic Census. In 2010, she transitioned into exports as a statistician in the Regulations, Outreach, and Education Branch of the Foreign Trade Division, where she worked on the Foreign Trade Regulations’ Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, giving various presentations on the regulations, and reaching out to the trade in the AES Compliance Program and other outreach efforts in English and Spanish.

She was accepted and participated in the Department of Commerce Aspiring Leadership Development Program. In 2012, she accepted a position as a defense trade analyst for the Department of State at the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls in the Bureau of Political Military Affairs. 

Tenzin enjoys hiking, biking, scuba diving, skiing, tennis, horseback riding, and traveling.
