Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, to an Indonesian mother and an American father of German and Scottish ancestry, Tom Leiby is a Foreign Service officer (FSO) who joined the U.S. Department of State in 2008. He previously served as a consular officer in Guangzhou, China, and as an economic officer in Pretoria, South Africa.
Presently, Tom is undergoing language training at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) in preparation for a return to China to serve as an economic officer in Beijing. Raised in Jakarta, Singapore, and Pennsylvania, Tom earned a B.A. in international studies and an M.A. in international economic relations from the School of International Service (SIS) at American University in Washington, DC.
