International Mine Awareness Day

The United States joins in observing April 4 as International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action to help draw attention to the global landmine problem, while also recognizing that great progress has been made in reducing it.

Sri Lanka is one of the many countries that receives assistance from the U.S. Humanitarian Mine Action Program.

Three Sri Lankan farmers peacefully sow crops on valuable agricultural land that was once infested by persistent landmines. The land was cleared with the assistance of the State Department.
Three Sri Lankan farmers peacefully sow crops on valuable agricultural land that was once infested by persistent landmines, and that was subsequently thoroughly cleared with the assistance of the Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.
