DAS Carol Thompson addresses flood victims in Viana, AngolaAfrican AffairsViana, Angola February 2, 2007 DAS Carol Thompson visited a temporary shelter for flood displaced people in Viana, Angola and announced $70,000 in U.S. Government (USG) assistance. At the shelter, DAS Thompson and Ambassador Efird (seated on left but blocked from full view) voiced USG concern for the plight of those affected by the recent floods, announced the USG emergency relief support for the victims, and pointed to the upcoming USAID-Coca-Cola clean water distribution project as an effort to provide more medium-term assistance in the affected areas following the flood recovery. DAS Thompson and Ambassador Efird also presented clothes donated by Embassy employees and their families to the victims of the floods. The Vice Municipal Administrator of Viana and a representative of the affected families thanked the USG for its assistance.
