In March 2002, the office director of the Multilateral Affairs Office of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, Tatiana Gfoeller and program officer T.J. Grubisha  traveled to Albania, Serbia, and Kosovo to assess the general human rights situation.

at dinner, holding newspaperIn Serbia and Kosovo, they visited multilateral institutions and local programs for which DRL coordinates funding or has contributed Human Rights and Democracy Fund money in the past. These institutions include the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in Belgrade and Pristina, the Kosovo Human Rights Ombudsman, the Kosovo Criminal Defense Resource Center, and the only Serbian-language newspaper published in Kosovo, "Glas Juga."

Some of the meetings focused on the human rights aspect of combating trafficking in persons. By engaging in the trafficking issue, DRL will be able to advocate the human side of the problem at an appropriate level while at the same time enhancing law enforcement capabilities.  Photographs are courtesy of Tatiana Gfoeller.
