London, United Kingdom
April 4, 2003

A permanent memorial garden to those who lost their lives in the United States on September 11, 2001 is being built at Grosvenor Square Garden, London, which is bordered on its west side by the U.S. Embassy. The memorial's official opening will be on September 11, 2003. On April 4, 2003 a girder from Ground Zero that had been set in glass resin was on display before it was buried under the memorial garden in Grosvenor Square. Ambassador William Farish and some of the Embassy staff went to view the girder before it was buried beneath the site. (State Department photos by Sarah-Jane Mayhew, U.S. Embassy London)
