MEPI Supports Voter Education Workshops

West Bank

The agenda of the planned voter education workshops by the Association of Women Committees for Social Work took on immediacy as the death of Chairman Arafat re-opened the registers for municipal and presidential elections. A $25,000 Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) grant, awarded through the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem, has been supporting voter education workshops for women in the West Bank. The workshops contributed to the election of eight successful candidates; one woman received the most votes in her village and will therefore become its mayor.
